BRIEF HISTORY:
Kannada Department was started along with K.S.S. Arts, Commerce and Science College in the year 1984-85. It has been guided by the board of Studies in Kannada Department, Karnataka University, Dharwad. They Introduced then the major and miner subjects at the initial stages.
The work-load of the department in the year 1984 was just 12 hours, during next year it has increased up to 24 hours. Thus, the management has appointed Dr.S.F.Jakabal as the full-time Lecturer.
In the year 1985, due to the commencement of B.Com-I and BA-III Classes, work load enhanced up to 24 hours. Prof.V.B.Hiremath has been appionted as full-time Lecturer to the department by which all these teachers upheld the teaching faculty in an effective mode.
Each and every year the number of students enrollment increased and for this course. Then it has reached 68 hours per week. At this juncture, there was a sudden need of two full-time Lecturers. Dr.S.N.Venkatapur and Prof.N.M.Ambliyavar have been appointed the full-time Lecturers to the departments in the year 1989 and 1990 respectively. The major and miner method of teaching-learning process was replaced by three optional subjects in 1990-91. Now there are four full time Lecturers in the department. All of them in a joint venture helped the students in there growth and development as well as there physical, moral, spiritual and educational growth and development. All the students are encouraged with the spirit of the patriotism. The department has been teaching Kannada both basic and optional and as well as Folk Literature at Graduation Level.
The department has been conducting Poets Meet, Conferences, Seminars, tutorials and symposia. During these hours the distinguished literary persons philosophers and artists are invited. There speeches and Lecturers had definitely up graded the general and particular knowledge.
