BRIEF HISTORY:
The faculty of commerce was started during the year 1985-86 with 18 students in order to impart quality commerce education to the poor, rural and urban students specially socially and economically back word students. At present there are 180 students. Prof/ M.C.Vagge was appointed as full time Lecturer on 28th June, 1985. During the year 1989 Prof. S.A.Solapur, Prof. T.N.Godi and Prof N.H.Mundargi were appointed as full time Lecturers.
Our college has been providing the commerce education with three specializations viz, Cost Accounting, Income Tax, Banking and Insurance. Cost accounting and Financial Accounting for the third year B.Com degree level.
Our staff members have attended many orientation, refresher courses, workshops, and training programmes. Besides, they have participated and presented research papers at International, National and State level seminars and conferences organized by different Indian universities and colleges sponsored by UGC and other agencies.
Prof.M.C.Vagee had completed M.Phil degree and registered his name or Ph.D degree Dr.T.N.Godi is acting research guide and supervisor for M.Phil and Ph.D candidate at different distance education centers. Prof.N.H.Mundaragi had completed M.Phil course and awaiting for result.
Prof.M.C.Vagge HOD of commerce promoted as principal of the college on 4th September 2008 since then Prof.S.A.Solapur working as the HOD of commerce.
Dr. T.N.Godi has undertaken Minor Research Project under XI plan of UGC Prof N.H.Mundargi had completed PGDCA course from Karnataka University, Dharwad in the year 2008. Prin.M.C.Vagee has published two books and Dr.T.N.Godi has published 3 books and 8 research articles.
Our department had successfully conducted A Two Day National Seminar on “Government and Institutional Support for Entrepreneurial Development in India with Special Reference to Backward Area” on 8th and 9th May, 2009. Prof. M.C.Vagge worked as President, Dr. T.N.Godi worked as Organisisng Secretary, Prof N.H.Mundargi worked as Treasurer and Prof.S.A.Solapur Worked as Joint Secretary of the seminar. It was memorable and land mark in the history of our department. The said seminar was conducted jointly with Gadag Dist Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gadag.
