BRIEF HISTORY:
The department of Sociology is started in the year 1984. Prof. Smt. P. B. Hiremath and Prof. N. B Sangalad are full time lecturers in Sociology. The performance of department during post NAAC period is below.
In the year 2005 – 06 Karnataka University, Dharwad introduced semester system. Thus sociology become an optional subject. The intake of students gradually increased and the result varied between 85% to 95%.
The department is organizing field work and study tour since 2005 i.e. Gadag and Dharwad Distract to provide students a first hand knowledge and experience. There are 1948 books worth of Rs. 1,34,646/ for readership in the library, among them general books are 1,791 and UGC books 157.
In the year 2007-08 Sri.N.B.Sangalad and in the year 2008-09 Smt.P.B.Hiremath have registered there names for Ph.D in the Dept. of Tribal Studies Kannada University, Hampi.
Smt. P. B. Hiremath attended international and national seminar and she is serving as a cherman of anty raging – harresment cell and also she served as squad member and paper setter. Shri N. B. Sangalad attended internalnational and national seminar. He is serving as chairman of Debate union and examination committee of the college.
The Department of Sociology is popular, active, and cheerful since its inception in the college. The Peer Committee mentioned the good performance of the department in its report.
