BRIEF HISTORY:
The department of Political Science exists since the emergence of the college in 1984. Prof.S.L.Guledagudd and Prof.M.B.Halli are serving as faculty members. The performance of the department during post NAAC period is as follows.
The semester system is introduced from 2005 by Karnatak University, Dharwad. The Student Strength of the department gradually declined as majority of the students inclined towards Professional Courses as their choice of career i. e D.Ed and B.Ed courses. Other than this, the elective option to choose subject from a group of combination offered to students was limited. It is believed that subjects like Indian Constitution, Human Rights and Environmental Studies were made mandatory for study for all disciplines which is taught by faculty members may have given an option to opt the other optional subjects. Yet the performance of students, though limited in strength is better and the majority of them hailed from OBC category. The prominent Alumini in this period is Mr.Shivakumar Menashinkai who is serving as Bureau Chief at 24 X 7 Suvarna Kannada TV News Channel. Several of outgoing students pursued Higher Studies namely Law and P.G. Courses.
In the year 2005 – 06 Karnataka University, Dharwad introduced semester system. Thus sociology become an optional subject. The intake of students gradually increased and the result varied between 85% to 95%.
The faculty improvement of the department is good. Prof.S.L.Guledagudd has submitted thesis for award of Ph.D degree to Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has attended Seminars, Symposia and Workshop organized by various institutions. He is the Co-author of Commerce books namely EDP, Business Environment and International Business, Environment in English and Kannada version which is a multi-disciplinary subject where in political, social and economic issues interrelate the discipline. He also served as resource person for the workshop organized by the Department of Education, Government of Karnataka for the benefit of High School Teachers at Gadag District.He served as member of IQAC Team and Coordinator of National Seminar organized by the college. The UGC has sanctioned Minor Research Project to him under XI plan. He is Vice-Chairman of Post NAAC and assigned to prepare a draft of RAR by the committee. Prof.M.B.Halli attended Seminars, Symposia organized by various associations and institutions in this period
The extension activities of the faculty members are unique. Prof.S.L.Guledagudd is associated with several academic bodies NGO’s and serves as office bearer and member over the years. He has attended Coachers Coaching programme organized by Karnataka State Cricket Association Bangalore and serving as Coordinator and Chief Coach of Gadag and Haveri district which involved in coaching programmes of young talents. He is Vice-President of Karnatak University College Teachers Association and Executive Committee Member of Karnatak University Political Science Teachers Association .He is associated with rural development programmes under taken by RDTES, Itagi, District Koppal, an esteemed NGO in Hyderabad Karnataka. Prof.M.B.Halli served as executive committee member of Karnatak University Political Science Teachers Association. He is serving as Chairman of Human Rights Council of our College. He has delivered several lectures pertaining contemporary issues on several platform.
